When within your processes you have very important assets that cannot fail, using degradation models is recommended. In addition, if you are already monitoring critical variables in some of your assets, it is highly recommended that you use that data to generate your degradation models.

On the other hand, when you have assets or a group of assets with failure records, the use of reliability models is recommended. These models are useful when, as a result of practical or cost-related issues, you cannot count on the monitoring of critical variables
